IO01: A Scoping Review on the Reporting of Oral Health Professional Education

Work on the first intellectual output IO01 the Strategic Scoping for Evaluation of Oral Health Professionals' Education which is led by Mr Jonathan Dixon of the University of Sheffield and Dr James Field of Cardiff University commenced in October 2019.

This IO aimed to gain insight into the existing state of Oral Health Professional (OHP) Education in Europe. This was achieved by undertaking a scoping review on the reporting of Oral Health Professional Education in Europe. The search strategy included scientific and educational databases, internet searches and hand searching of stakeholder websites. 549 sources were retrieved and after screening and selection, 85 sources were included in the final scoping review. Four principal reporting themes were identified: programme-level data, discipline-level data, other OHP education and postgraduate education and CPD. The scoping review concluded that there is limited reporting of OHP education across Europe and it is not clear how this education is delivered. Alongside the paper, an infographic was created to help communicate the outcomes of the scoping review - this can be seen on the left.
